With an average income of well below $2 per day, many people living in Mathare struggle to make ends meet. Many children live in single parent households, or are orphans living with extended family. Caretakers struggle to provide food and other basic needs for children due to unemployment and illness.
That's where we come in. Our mission is to provide quality, holistic, transformational education to students in the Mathare slum. We hope for them to go to university, graduate, and return to their community as agents of change.
We believe the purpose of education is to grow children into passionate, creative, responsible adults who will positively impact society.
We believe transformation is achieved through quality education and character development.
Our desire is to not only educate children, but to see growth in each child that we impact, and we do all we can to draw out their best.
At eduKenya, we serve over 300 students in 15 grade levels. What started as a simple primary school has expanded into an organization that welcomes students to continue from pre-K to 12th grade graduation. Below is a snapshot of our school costs for 2021. Will you help us reach our goal of raising $20,ooo this Giving Tuesday? All funds will help us prepare for the 2021 school year.
It costs about $2,750 per month to run a classroom, and families pay about 6-7% of that in school fees. That leaves $31,000 needed to provide school for a year.
