eduKenya’s unique sustainability model includes the purchase of investment properties in Nairobi, the rental incomes from which are used to fund program operational costs. Once enough investments are made to support the Mawewa School and related programs, we will have the opportunity to launch new schools in other areas of Mathare.
The goal is to eventually fully fund each of eduKenya’s schools and related programs, as well as the organization’s operations with revenue earned from investment projects in order to avoid the pitfall of dependency commonly associated with international aid. We currently invest in properties in Mathare to support the local economy and provide improved housing for community members, most of whom previously lived in informal structures without running water or electricity.
We continue to seek partners who understand the importance of sustainably resourcing development programs and want to make a long-term impact for children and families in Mathare through the investment project. We are actively looking to diversify where we invest and what we invest in for our sustainability.
