Vivian Nyaitundi – Skill Training GraduateVivian Nyaitundi is a happy and energetic 23-year-old mother of two. She and her husband, who works in hotel maintenance, support their family of four, her two brothers, and a cousin. Vivian graduated from the eduKenya Skill Training School in November 2015 and recently stopped into the eduKenya offices for a visit and an update. To our delight, she informed us that she found employment in a busy hair salon in Nairobi the week following graduation. She works six days per week and makes a 40% commission on each client she serves. Before her training, Vivian made and sold food to construction workers. She would carry heavy pots of food on her back for long distances to reach the construction sites. Nevertheless, she was unable to help make ends meet for their family of seven. When Vivian learned about the Skill Training program, she quickly decided to learn a skill that would increase her earning potential. Vivian says it was one of the best decisions of her life. In the few short months since starting her new job, she and her husband can pay bills, provide for their household, and plan a much different future than they formerly envisioned for themselves and their family. Our vision is that families in Mathare will experience fullness of life through economic transformation. We work to make this a reality by empowering people with the opportunity to break the chronic cycle of poverty. eduKenya programming is raising the level of living and offering hope in this community.
