Dear Friend,Asante Sana! Thank You! We praise God for your generosity, as more than $85,000 was given during the match season for a total of over $165,000 given! Thank you for being part of the eduKenya movement. We are incredibly grateful for your partnership, which provided life-changing opportunity to children and their families in Mathare. So much happened in 2013! We have seen dramatic changes in the life of Kyalo, a young boy who went from routinely skipping public school, to joining Kwa Watoto and finishing at the bottom of his class, to finishing 2013 as the top student in his class. We have seen Brian, undeterred by scars from severe burns from his past, jump to the top position in the ultra competitive Sixth Grade. We have seen mothers receive empowerment, care and acceptance through our skill training and home based care programs. We have seen our students sing and dance in the streets, promoting peace and hope in a community where too often neither are found. We have seen young girls and boys who are HIV positive refuse to be defined by their disease, thrive in school and experience a high quality life. We have seen our teaching staff devote themselves to our students and the community at a level of commitment I have never seen before. We have seen academic excellence and character thrive in a place where no one would expect to find it. This is what we have seen in Mathare. We have also seen life taken too early, young girls experience the horror of rape and early pregnancy and violent gangs steal the childhoods of vulnerable boys. We have seen drugs and alcoholism seize the minds of parents and children. These too are realities we have seen in Mathare, though the story does not end there.eduKenya is a movement, not simply an organization. God has placed it on our hearts to spread the movement like wildfire - to go places where life is stolen and restore it, to reintroduce childhood, to help children and families realize their God-given potential and provide life-altering opportunities to rise out of poverty. We do not define the lives of those we work with by their circumstances. We define them as God’s children, just as we are God’s children. We see them as people with a hopeful future. So, what do we see in 2014? We see 7th graders have the opportunity to get out of Mathare and attend private boarding school. We see a new school built for the Kwa Watoto School that is bursting at the seams. We see opportunity for parents to gain income-generating skills that provide for their families. We see people suffering physically receive loving care and the opportunity to work. We see a school of nearly 200 children sustained through wise investment. We see ourselves pursuing our vision of giving opportunity to thousands of children with even greater passion, partnership and purpose. What do you see for the children of Mathare? When you see their pictures, do you see hope? Do you see light in a place of darkness? We certainly do and look forward to working together, through God’s grace and provision, to make these opportunities possible. It is by God’s strength and because he loves each one of us that this can happen. Please continue to pray with us. Support the future of these children. Join me on a Vision Trip to see for yourself. Consider joining the Ambassadors Team. Dig deeper in this incredible movement that God is orchestrating. How can you be a part of it?We cannot thank you enough for you commitment. You are a blessing to the eduKenya family. May God bless you as you continue to be challenged to bless others both near and far.Gratefully,Adam GouldU.S. Executive Director
