Skill Training Student - Ruth
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work…. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9: 8, 11
Ruth is a student in the Hair-and-Beauty program in the eduKenya Skill Training department. Ruth is no stranger to eduKenya, as she is a graduate from the Tailoring program and the mother of two daughters who attend Mawewa School. She also has a two year old daughter, Nyambura, who accompanies her to the training school and has won the hearts of the staff there. Ruth’s husband works in the matatu (people transportation) business, but his income barely sustains this family of five.Ruth was once a vegetable vendor, but after falling ill, had to quit working. Once her health recovered, she chose to learn new skills by attending the free training programs offered by eduKenya. Although still a student, Ruth is already earning an income from braiding the hair of women and girls in her neighborhood. She is so pleased to use these earnings to buy extra food for the family.Ruth says it is not always easy to wake up early to prepare herself and the children for school, but it is worth the effort. Ruth is extremely grateful that eduKenya offers the opportunity to learn valuable skills free-of-charge. She hopes that more parents of Mawewa school children will take advantage of this wonderful and complementary opportunity available to them. After completing the course in April, Ruth hopes to find employment in a salon. She wants to gain experience and skill in hairdressing and learn how to run a business.Someday Ruth would like to open her own business and offer employment opportunities to other women in Mathare. eduKenya is grateful for Ruth’s godly hearts that desires to bless others as she has been blessed! We love it when our students pass on the gifts of hope and transformation.
