Celebration Day 2016

Mawewa students love Celebration Day – the last day of school and a time to recognize group and individual achievements. On October 27, preschool and secondary school children, Skills Training graduates, teachers, parents, and eduKenya staff gathered to salute the accomplishments of all Mawewa School pupils.PP3 Graduation[caption id="attachment_3323" align="aligncenter" width="565"]

Top students from Classes 1-7

Top students from Classes 1-7[/caption]Many of our students must overcome multiple obstacles to learning – lack of parental involvement, insupportable environments for homework, peer pressure, and hunger. Overcoming these obstacles to learning is a considerable achievement. We honor each student for completing another school year and recognize the leaders from each class who serve as an inspiration to their fellow students. Top students in the photo above in ascending grade order, left-to-right: Jeff W., Shimin W., Rose M., Morris K., Monica W., Francis T., and Kyalo M.Parent InvolvementParents have a powerful influence on their children’s academic performance - checking homework, discussing school activities at home, and attending school meetings and events fosters success. Families in the slum live in austere circumstances; the caregivers often work long hours to provide food and shelter, making it a challenge to be involved in their children's education. We appreciate the difficulties they face each day and laud the engaged Mawewa parents for their commitment.[caption id="attachment_3325" align="aligncenter" width="377"]
