Class 6 1st Term 2015

Class Six has 21 students, ages 11-12. Several children in this class live a long distance from Mawewa School. To give everyone time to arrive, Class Six begins their day 20 minutes later (7:20 A.M.) than the rest of the school. The students of Class Six appreciate every opportunity to improve their lives. Their favorite subject is English and they excel in Christian Religious Education studies.Irene Macharia is the Class Six teacher and the Mawewa School Deputy Head teacher. Irene helps lead the student drama club. She says that drama provides a wonderful opportunity for students to express their creativity. Ms. Macharia is cognizant that her students are at a vulnerable stage between childhood and the teenage years. She takes special care to work with these children as they maneuver through this complicated and fun time in life.Class Six Student Highlight

038 Eugene Kiilu

Kiilu lives in Mathare and is the first born of three children. His mother does odd jobs, when she can find them, to provide for her family’s basic needs. Kiilu has been always thankful for his family and praises his mother for her love in the midst of their cruel living conditions.Kiilu is a passionate youngster who works very hard at his studies. He enjoys studying Kiswahili (Swahili language) and his favorite book is ‘Kembo the cat’. Kiilu is one of the best soccer players in Mawewa School and loves spending time with his friends.
