Under the able direction of Joseph Njenga, Coordinator of Home Based Care, eduKenya's Community Support Ministry (CSM) has collaborated with Kiva, a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. Kiva collaborates only with organizations that go “above and beyond” to generate positive outcomes for the communities they serve. eduKenya is honored to meet the social performance requirements of KivaKiva provides loans through Community Support Ministry to members with struggling businesses requiring financial intervention. Ten members of the CSM received loans. These individuals are already paying back the debt because their businesses are experiencing positive rewards due to the loans. Several other people have recently co-opted into Kiva and are receiving loans.
