Transformation is at the heart of eduKenya’s work. Providing opportunities for the children in our schools to have a life changing relationship with God, and help them grow in understanding of how that relationship can and should impact all of their life, is central to our success in achieving our vision to see “all children and their families in Mathare experience fullness of life, through Christ-centered spiritual, social and economic transformation.”

At eduKenya’s Chelezo High School, our students work through 4 years of our character focused leadership development program called the  Senior Leadership Program (SLP), which culminates in our senior year, Mt. Kenya climb. Throughout all of the SLP experiential activities, we never lose sight of the centrality of our faith in Christ. This faith’s real transformative power can bring new life to each child, who can in turn, work toward the transformation of their families and community for the glory of God.

One of the first SLP experiential activities we introduce our freshman students to is a 4 day camp. This April, camp took place in nearby Murang’a County, on a beautiful lush green campsite filled with majestic avocado and macadamia trees.

During camp, one of the most important activities was the morning devotions which were led by some of our facilitators.

During these sessions, our students studied the life of Joseph in the book of Genesis, discussing the dangers of envy and jealousy, and the importance of fortitude and perseverance. With guidance from their leaders, our students were given a period of individual reflection and prayer (quiet time).

After this time our students were split into two groups for further discussion. Following devotions, our freshman students also had the opportunity to hear from and interact with several other facilitators which included a nurse and counselor, a media personality and a World Bank Executive.
