I had the privilege of visiting our schools in Mathare this summer. During the visit, I attended a Sunday service at Nairobi Chapel and listened to Pastor Oscar Muriu deliver a sermon on the book of Esther. He told us about Esther, a young Jewish woman, who was providentially placed in King Xerxes's Court by winning a beauty pageant. She was to replace the queen who had fallen out of favor with the King. Meanwhile, the king's right-hand man, Haman, was plotting to wipe out the Jews. To convince Esther to go into the king’s presence to beg for mercy and plead with him for her people, her Uncle Mordecai implored her:"Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape? For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”As I contemplated on this event in history, and how God used Esther to save the lives of an entire nation, I thought about our organization. Great things are happening in Mathare because God brought together key individuals at a particular place in time, just as he did in Esther’s day. He provided financial partners to help their dream become a reality for the children and families served by eduKenya. Today, lives are being transformed and saved through our schools and community programming. Our boarding school in Naivasha is having a significant impact on the lives of children for whom there are high personal risks if they remain in the slums during their teen years.Regrettably, the addition of the boarding school in January has stretched eduKenya to the point where our need is significantly outpacing our resources. Like Esther’s Uncle Mordecai, I implore you to consider if you are here for such a time as this. Please pray for eduKenya, specifically for the resources to meet our present need. Consider giving an extra gift to our ministry. Finally, I ask that you share with others, specifically, your church and individuals within your congregation that we need their help. For the next 60 days, we have a $30,000 match available to NEW DONORS.Donors can give online at the eduKenya website; additionally, they may send a gift to:eduKenya7090 Nolen Park CircleNolensville, TN 37135Thank you for prayerfully considering our situation and your response.God Bless,Pete Zimmerman
