Freshman Class Reunion and Day CampFor one week during the student’s school break, our freshmen students, back home in Mathare, attended a day camp at Mawewa School. Alumni from the 2015 Grade 8 graduating class who are attending other high schools joined our own Form 1 students. It was a wonderful reunion for former classmates and a time for making new friends. The intention of the camp was to mentor leaders, teach values, facilitate bonding, showcase individual talents, and provide a time of fun and relaxation. The students were allowed to leave their uniforms behind and wear street clothes each day. Besides showing up and participating, the students lent a hand cleaning up after meals and straightening the hall at the end of each day.The students were divided into four groups that competed in various games and activities throughout the week. There were sessions on Creating Positive Relationships; a motivational lecture and question/answer session with representatives from Tanari Trust and Legado International; a talent show and movie day; and a special luncheon on the final day.The camp was a great, God-honoring success, and His presence was evident throughout the event. Special thanks to everyone involved, including Director Bob Kikuyu for initiating the idea, Joseph Njenga for developing and directing the week’s activities, Felix from Tanari, Grace from Legado, Ajema Kikuyu for the delicious pilau, and everyone else, students included, who made the camp a huge success.
