An Exciting New eduKenya ProgrameduKenya is pleased to introduce an exciting new program that is an outgrowth of eduKenya’s Home Based Care program (HBC.) Several years ago, HBC was developed in response to the overwhelming needs of Mathare community members living with HIV/AIDS. During the HBC 2013 end-of-year evaluation meeting, we focused on how eduKenya might increase our impact on students’ parents and the Mathare community. The outcome of that meeting was the development of a new program, Community Support Ministry (CSM.) CSM continues to support the needs of those with chronic illness, but now also addresses the needs of parents and community members with unstable employment.Community Support Ministry activities follow eduKenya’s organization policy to bring transformation through opportunity, instead of providing handouts. It does this by providing opportunities to learn income-generating activities and to improve existing businesses. CSM also provides a platform from which the Skills Training program (Hairdressing/Beauty and Tailoring Schools) can reach members of the community. Several members of the Community Support Ministry joined the Tailoring program and were able to secure waivers on their class fees through CSM.In upcoming weeks, we will be posting more about this exciting new eduKenya Program.God Bless and Happy Spring!
