As I previously shared, floods have hit hard in Kenya this rainy season, particularly so in Mathare. We had one family that lost everything, and two others whose homes were completely filled with water. We ask for your continued prayers for those families.
Additionally, right behind our school are many shacks that happen to be in the area of flooding. Those shacks have been determined by the government to be too close to the river (which is generally a small stream), and are being removed. Residents have not appreciated having their homes removed, and it has turned into some clashes between residents and government contractors brought in to remove the structures. Some are trying to fight back, while others salvage the framing and sheet metal to take with them. This week, tear gas was used while there was conflict during the removal process.
Please pray for a peaceful process, for families to find new places to live and that in the midst of the difficulty the affected individuals and families would find their strength, provision, and peace in the Lord. We would also ask that you pray for Kenyans as a whole, as the flooding has decimated a number of communities around the country. We are grateful for your prayers and support as you give opportunity to children and families living in very vulnerable circumstances.
With hope,
Adam
