Kwa Watoto Class One

Class One (First Grade) has 20 students, ages 6-8 years. Most of these young students are fluent in English and have good reading skills - they love reading storybooks in the library and on Kindles. Mathematics is a fun challenge and they are eager to figure out how to correct a wrong answer without prompting from their teacher. The XO laptop computers donated to Kwa Watoto School last year provide Class One with a fun and challenging way to learn!Mrs. Njuguna is the Class One teacher and has taught at Kwa Watoto School for 6 years. She loves teaching because she believes it is a calling: “I want to follow in the footsteps of Jesus who was the best teacher ever.” Mrs. Njuguna says teaching gives her an opportunity to help transform the lives of children and help them deal with life and learning in a positive manner. Her favorite subject to teach is English. In addition to education, the children receive two nutritious meals each day, enrichment activities, and Christian nurture. Each child received a medical exam on February 3.Meet Gerald

Gerald

Gerald is 8 years old. He became an orphan last year when he lost his one remaining parent and is now under the care of his sister who also has a daughter at Kwa Watoto School. Gerald is a happy child, very interactive, likes school, and is one of the top performers in his class. His favorite subjects are science and mathematics.Outside the classroom, Gerald likes playing football (soccer.) He wants to be a pilot when he is grown. Gerald says that when he watches movies with airplanes, he feels as though he is “getting inside the television and flying the airplanes.” He believes that with hard work and God’s help, he will achieve his dream of becoming a pilot.eduKenya is passionate about seeing children like Gerald break free from the cycle of poverty and reach his or her God-given potential. We work to make this a reality by empowering children and their families with the opportunities to transform their lives. Please consider partnering with us to achieve this goal by supporting an entire classroom for a year!
