At eduKenya’s schools, the subject of Math has been a challenge to many of our students and we continue to seek various avenues to improve our learners' understanding and knowledge of the subject across all our schools. Proficiency in Math is central to all students' academic experience as it develops logic, critical thinking and problem-solving skills which all students need to be equipped with. Beyond these fundamentals, for Christ-centered institutions like our eduKenya schools, Math introduces abstract ideas which point to objective reality. Math at its core reveals order, which lies at the center of God’s creation. Dr. Jason Wilson, a Math Professor at Biola University further illustrates the importance of Math for the Christian student as he explains “…in math I see how the world is so profoundly ordered and structured, and the mathematics that we do and we use that touches so much of our technology today, is really a pointer to something beyond. What is its origin? Where does it come from? And that points us right to God.”
Recently, our Chelezo High School Students had the opportunity to participate in a Math Competition at neighboring Makueni School. During the preparations for the Math Competition, our students learned the value of hard work, organization and time management, while the competition itself provided a great avenue for our students to creatively explore and expand their knowledge of mathematics while challenging and improving their problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Our students performed well during the competition and were also challenged by the learners from other schools they interacted with.
