Lewis 2

Lewis and Cecelia are Grade 8 classmates who both began school at Mawewa (formerly Kwa Watoto School) when they were in Grade 5. They both attended other schools before joining our Mawewa family.Lewis praises Mawewa School because they provide opportunities for the disadvantaged. He is thankful that his father has a job and though not rich, can support his family. Cecelia’s mother can also provide for her family, working as a tailor with the Export Processing Zone. Both children are aware that many of their classmates do not enjoy the security of having employed parents.Lewis praises the meals at school, saying they are “filling and well done.” He loves his classmates and his teacher, Mr. Mule, because he is supportive of the students and motivates them to do and be their best. Cecelia loves Mawewa because of the teachers who are accomplished instructors. She says that her Christian Education teacher, Mrs. Macharia, has a great sense of humor and loves to help her students. Her mother’s career as a tailor has influenced Cecelia’s interest in clothing and she wants to design apparel for export someday. Clothing is her passion because “when people like your clothes, you feel happy.” Lewis wants to be a journalist when he grows up because it looks like fun to be on TV, but he also thinks he can be great at it.Lewis and Cecelia understand the implications of extreme poverty and wish to ease the suffering of others. When asked for a prayer request, Cecelia does not ask for herself, but that we pray for her uncle and father. As for Lewis, he hopes to one day help provide for his family and give back to society by helping orphans.
