Lucy is a new Pre-Primary 3 (PP3) student. She is the second born of three siblings and her family is severely impoverished. Neither of her parents has a job to pay for their family’s basic needs.

Of everything Lucy likes about school, breakfast and lunch are especially appreciated! Compared to what she receives at home, these plentiful meals are a feast. Lucy loves to learn. Her favorite subject is language and her favorite story is ‘The tortoise and the Hare’. Lucy also loves to sing.

Mershell is a new Class One Student. She lives in Mathare North with her parents and a younger brother, who is in PP3. Her parents work as casual laborers and can provide basic necessities for their family.

Mershell is a hard-working student whose favorite learning activities are math and reading. Mershell dreams of being a teacher when she grows up because teachers are "helpful and good role models.” Her favorite subject outside the classroom is Physical Education, especially when the class goes to an open field where she can run.
