On August 31, with great joy, pomp and circumstance, our students began the Fall 2015 term at the new Mawewa School building! In addition to teachers, staff and students, several esteemed guests were in attendance for the opening ceremonies, including Joe Okelo, Executive Director of Makini College and Eric Simba, founder of Kenya Best Christian Camps.[caption id="attachment_2663" align="aligncenter" width="565"]
Mercy[/caption]Mercy M., Class 8 and Mawewa School Head Girl, represented the students in a speech of gratitude delivered to the assembled group:“I take this opportunity to thank God for the guidance he gave to all of us and for enabling us to have this new facility.I also want to thank the parents who are present today for leaving their workplaces and businesses to celebrate this day with us. I also want to thank the pupils for their co-operation and their willingness to help us relocate to our new school.I am grateful to the administration for building a big spacious school which will enable us to (take) the KCPE exams comfortably. It will also allow the students to interact well since there is a play area. As you can see today, we (can view) the whole school (building) because of the ample (outdoor) space. To all those who have made this happen, the students of Mawewa say a huge ‘Thank you.’”The eduKenya staff joins Mercy in extending a hearty “THANKS!” for your support. Your faithfulness makes it possible for us to provide opportunities for transformation for those living in the Mathare slum.eduKenya will soon send out an email that photo journals the opening day ceremony at Mawewa School.
