Bishop Isaiah Kamau leads the Believers Centre Mathare Church, which partners with eduKenya to operate the Kwa Watoto School and related programs in Mathare.
I come from a family of 14 children, fourth born to parents who are farmers. I was raised in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya and received my primary education there. I later moved to Nairobi and developed an infection that left me completely blind in both eyes for two years. The national hospital was unable to cure me despite many treatments over the course of two years. My life changed forever in 1981 when visited by some Christians who shared the gospel with me and prayed for the healing of my eyes. I believed in Jesus and was miraculously healed of my blindness that same night! I once was blind, but since that day I have been able to see. I am a living testimony to the power of God.I became passionate about educating primary-aged children in the Mathare slum as the pastor of Believers Centre Mathare Church because so many children at our church were not attending school. Their parents could not afford school fees, uniforms and food for their children, leaving children uneducated, idle and hungry. Our church addressed this critical problem by starting a childcare program. In 2006, Adam Gould visited our program and was inspired by what we were doing. Adam founded the Kenya Children Project (the organization in which eduKenya has its roots), and partnered with Believers Centre Church to build upon our children’s program by opening a fully functional primary school. It is an honor to provide holistic education for impoverished children who would otherwise remain uneducated.May the living and able God continue to provide for our partnership and, most importantly, the children we serve. To God be the glory![caption id="attachment_714" align="aligncenter" width="332"]
