But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also. 2 Corinthians 8:7

Sarah, 13, is a Class 8 student who joined Mawewa School three years ago. She lives with her mother and a younger sister who is in Class 2. Sarah is appreciative that the school is affordable to low-income families and provides two nutritious meals per day because children in other schools have to pay for lunch or go home to eat, which takes up precious school time. She is also thankful for her textbooks, other teaching materials, and teachers who are experienced and compassionate.Sarah is the Head Girl (top female student) at Mawewa School. She was not expecting the honor and was astonished when the teachers nominated her. When asked what she likes about being the Head Girl, she says, “It feels nice to be respected.” Sarah excels at Math and enjoys the extra-curricular activities provided by the school. In PE class, football is her game. In her free time, she enjoys knitting, watching TV, and skipping rope. When Sarah counts her blessings, she thanks God daily for her mother, Mary, her biggest supporter and encourager. Mary works at Mawewa School as a custodian, a position she received after working as part of the construction crew in 2015. She says that her mother will occasionally do Sarah’s assigned house chores so she may study.Sarah hopes to score above 400 points in her KCPE, following in the footsteps of the last year’s Head Girl, Mercy, who scored 409. We hope so too!
