Transformation is seeing someone go from one path of expectations and actions to a radically different path of expectations and actions that are counter to the environment they are in.
The path that many would expect for a child from Mathare is one where the cycle of poverty continues from one generation to the next. Therefore, we choose to teach and invest in a radically different approach; one that provides high quality and holistic educational experiences that address the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of our students. At eduKenya, education is centered on seeing growth in each child that we impact by doing all we can to draw out their best.
This December 2019, we will be celebrating the graduation of our pioneer class. Since 2007 eduKenya has added a grade level each year, following our current seniors from preschool through high school. As the school grew, the eduKenya staff started thinking about how to best prepare our students for the transition into life after graduation. Therefore, the Senior Leadership program was created.
The Senior Leadership program offers life lessons and skills intended to build character, discipline, resiliency and teamwork through an assortment of outdoor experiences that lead up to climbing Mount Kenya- the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. Completion of the Senior Leadership program is monumental as it signifies transformation within our Seniors’. Our goal is that our radically different approach to education will put our students on a path to enter the world as adults that will participate in and have a positive impact on society.
