Paul, singing his song

Paul, singing his song[/caption]Paul is a 5 year old pre-primary student at Mawewa School who loves to sing. Until eight weeks ago, he had not performed by himself in front of others, but he was more than willing to try. Paul is smart and learned a solo performance piece in 30 minutes! In June, Paul bravely stood before a room full of spectators and judges to perform his song in a local competition. The competition was held to qualify individuals and groups of students for the 2015 Kenyan Schools and Colleges Music Festival (KMF).The KMF is an annual competition held at the local, regional and national levels. This year, the national competition is in August in Kisumu, in western Kenya. KMF gives students a platform to explore and showcase their vocal and instrumental musical talents, public speaking, and African dance skills. The categories include individual and group competition. In the 2014 KMF, Mawewa students performed in the public speaking competition, also known as Choral Verses. This year, Mawewa School entered 25 students in 13 (out of 480) competing categories at the local level, including our first school choir. We are proud to announce that our small-group-choir, comprised of students from Grades 4-8, has advanced to the regional competition in July![caption id="attachment_2497" align="aligncenter" width="468"]

Mathare School KMF Team[/caption]It is a joy and a blessing to have our students experience their first vocal training and to see them express their feelings through music. We are confident they will flourish as we embark upon this new phase of their education. Please keep these youngsters in your prayers as they prepare for the regional level of the competition.

Sing praises to God, sing praises; Sing praises to our King, sing praises. Psalm 47:6
