This week marks the first time a Mawewa School class has taken the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Examination, determining if individual students are ready to advance to high school. Seventeen Class 8 students join 937,467 other Kenyan children for 4 days of testing. All other Mawewa School children finished classes last week, so our KCPE candidates can test without noise or interruption. The testing is taking place in our new school hall. In fact, Class 8 moved into the hall for their last month of classes before exams. The spacious school hall provides an environment compliant with the Kenya Ministry of Education specification – that the students must sit 1.22 meters (4 feet) apart in all directions.Mawewa School will host three registered invigilators (proctors) from other schools to oversee our students’ exams. We will send three of our teachers to other schools to monitor other KCPE exams-takers.Our candidates are excited and confident they will do well, though they admit to being a little afraid. Speaking for the Class of 2015 during a recent prayer day, student Ann Kalunda urged classmates to stay positive, saying, “There has never been a class like ours. We have always shown co-operation and support for each other. (Because of) the hard work we have put in, I have strong faith we are going to pass with flying colors. It is time to reap what we have sown.”The last day of exams is Thursday, November 12 and results will be announced in late December. To blow off a little steam and enjoy their last moments as a close-knit group, exhausted Class 8 students look forward to Friday’s all-school celebration and a week-long Christian camp experience next week.eduKenya and Mawewa School board, leaders and staff are exceedingly proud of our Class 8 students and everyone who has taught, mentored, encouraged, supported and prayed for them. Opportunity, hope, and transformation are no longer a distant dream for these children – it is within their grasp and we continue to pray that God will guide their hearts and minds as they step into their future.
“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
