On the Thursday before Easter, we remember the Last Supper of Jesus with the disciples and Judas’ betrayal. On Good Friday, Jesus on the cross cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46) and then the book of Luke says he stated, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” (Luke 23:46) He then died, and all hope seemed lost. However, that was not the end, and we are reminded of our hope by the empty tomb we celebrate on Easter Sunday, and the words of the angel, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ Then they remembered his words.” (Luke 24:5-8)
Our work at eduKenya pursues transformation of individuals and communities into a new life in Christ. We see places that would appear hopeless, lives with a limited future transformed, because of a risen Christ. We live as people of the resurrection, understanding what has been done for us. We know that we contributed to Christ’s suffering on the Cross and receive our transformed identity through his death and resurrection.
2 Corinthians 5 addresses awaiting a new body and the reconciliation Christ brings. As we celebrate Easter it is my prayer that each of you, each of our students, the families we walk with, and our staff would embrace the words of 2 Corinthians 5:17 that are a direct result of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come!” Our transformation comes through the actions, hope and promise of Jesus Christ. For those that don’t know that hope, I invite you to take the journey of transformation and let the old pass away and the new come. He is Risen! Hallelujah and Amen!
