Vision Trip attendees Richard and Brady Beech and Danielle Wissinger with Kwa Watoto students[/caption]Richard Beech of Grove City, PA recently returned from a Vision Trip with eduKenya and reflects on his experience today:The following exchange comes toward the end of the movie Jurassic Park 3:Dr. Grant: “I have a theory there are those that want to be astronomers, and those that want to be astronauts. The astronomer gets to study these amazing things from a place of complete safety.”Erik: “But then you never get to go into space.”Dr. Grant: “Exactly. That’s the difference between imagining and seeing: to be able to touch them.”During a very transformational week in Nairobi, Kenya, my son, Brady, Danielle Wissinger and I were able to touch some of God’s most precious children 8,000 miles from our home.Since our return, I have told everyone that our vision trip was one of the best weeks of my life. It was very encouraging to witness the work being done by eduKenya and the love conveyed to the students and family members. The thoughts I would like to share far exceed your ability to read them all. So here are just a few:*Adam and Njeri Gould – A special couple, gracious hosts and a “ton of fun." We laughed together and shed some tears. Our debriefing time at the end of each day was quite special.*The students – WOW! Education is a privilege and they do not take this for granted. It is their only way out of poverty. To have dozens of smiling kids “huggin’ and lovin’” us still brings a lump to my throat. This experience alone made the trip worthwhile.*Mathare and Jangwani - When you have the privilege of becoming an astronaut, your thought process changes from “I believe” to “I know.” The jump between these two places is simultaneously very emotional and quite challenging. Yet the joy and grace offered by our home visit hosts is not easy to describe. Trust me, only the love of Christ allows for such expression.*eduKenya – As the CEO of a small company I can strongly affirm the business model established by the founders and Board of Directors of eduKenya. Compassion and accountability are practiced while the love of Jesus Christ is at the center of every endeavor.*”Mathare Moments” – I will have these for the rest of my life. The shed in my backyard would be a strong and quite beautiful home for so many people. I have affordable access to clean running water, a hot shower, a reliable sewer system and consistent electricity – “Please forgive me, Lord, for taking so much for granted.”Years ago a friend of mine said that people need to see “Jesus with skin on.” That line has stuck with me. The children of eduKenya are privileged to see “Jesus with skin on” in no small part due to the prayers and financial support they receive from many of you reading this blog. They extend their thanks to all of you.In closing, if God is speaking to you right now about moving out of your comfort zone to take a trip such as this, say “yes” to Him. You will be glad that you did.
