Norman recently completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary School Education exams (KCPE) at the end of 2023 at eduKenya’s Mawewa Primary School. Normans' biggest prayer request at the beginning of 2023 was “Pray that I would pass the KCPE Exam.”
KCPE exams are a major milestone in a Kenyan student's life, marking the end of their primary education. These exam results determine entry into the limited number of High Schools in Kenya for the majority of Kenya’s children.
Though eduKenya schools, like other religious-based private schools, work within the Kenyan educational system, we have the freedom to allow entry into our schools based on other factors outside of purely academic results. We are thus able to prioritize giving opportunities to students living in abject poverty, who would otherwise be unable to complete their basic education due to various socio-economic challenges.
For students like Norman, the opportunity to be a part of a school like our Mawewa Primary School means an opportunity to receive a high-quality, Christ-centered, character-based education, in a place where most students will never graduate primary school. It means an opportunity to be mentored by teachers who care about their students holistically, pouring their best effort to see their students succeed.
In January 2024, Mr. Wesonga, our Mawewa Primary School Principal, received an award on behalf of our Mawewa Primary School, for the Most Improved Private School in KCPE 2023 in all of Nairobi County. Year after year, our teachers and students diligently strive to give their very best, working to see every student succeed, through hard work, according to their ability. Our results are being recognised in the larger Nairobi community, as the years of perseverance are producing good results.
This year we were pleased to hear that Norman passed his exams. We are grateful that God answered his prayer, but even more so, that Norman received the spiritual and social mentorship and guidance that molded his character, preparing him to meet the challenges that teenagers face growing up in extreme poverty.
Would you consider supporting a student like Norman today, so that children just like him can continue to receive a high-quality, transformational education right in the heart of Mathare?
