Mr. Joseph Okelo[/caption]eduKenya chose wisely when they asked Joe Okelo to be the Guest of Honor at the opening day ceremony for the new Mawewa School building. Joe is a champion for education and families in Kenya and beyond.Joe Okelo is the Executive Director of Makini College and Director of Makini Schools - highly respected, private, primary and secondary schools in the Nairobi suburbs. The Makini School term started the same day as our opening ceremony, but Joe graciously accepted our invitation. Joe gave an inspiring speech to those in attendance and generously donated a projector to Mawewa School.[caption id="attachment_2677" align="alignright" width="283"]

In addition, he invited Mawewa teachers to visit Makini. The opportunity gave our teachers a chance to hear about the humble beginnings and growth of Makini Schools. The teachers, inspired to continue their hard work, hope to build Mawewa School into a comparable educational institution.Joe is the Director at Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP) Kenya. GTTP is a multi-country educational program to introduce students to career opportunities in Travel & Tourism. To date, more than a million and a half students in twelve countries have taken part in the GTTP.Joe works closely with youth groups from disadvantaged backgrounds. He is the patron of Kibera Youth Initiative for Community Development, an organization involved in projects in the slums, including organic farming, business incubation and construction of sanitation blocks.Besides his passion for children’s education, Joe is the founder of the Association of Family Business Enterprises in Nairobi, an independent, non-governmental and non-political association run by and for family business owners. The organization provides a forum for exchange of knowledge and experiences, and a platform for engagement and support to business owners experiencing unique challenges.eduKenya and Mawewa School are fortunate to have a friend in Joe Okelo and we look forward to many years of partnership with him and the Makini School group.
